4 -Year-Old and 5-Year-Old Kindergarten
The 4K/5K program is a full day developmentally appropriate program, designed to expand each child's abilities by drawing from his/her interests, experiences, and background knowledge. The children are engaged in hands-on activities in Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. The children also participate in the specialty classes of Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and Library.
First and Second Grade
Students develop their studies within the reading and language arts curriculum, which presents listening, speaking, reading and writing as integrated processes. Students focus on gaining meaning through reading and creating meaning as they write. The classroom is learner-directed and individualized. Writer's and Reader's Workshops develop literacy, while age-appropriate Science, and Social Studies. Our new math curriculum is a standards-based program based on the greatminds.org series of Eureka Math. With a technology-focused approach through a new program called Zearn, students have ample opportunities to exhibit and apply their mathematical skills learned through daily instruction.
Third and Fourth Grade
Language Arts learning is expanded through a literature-based reading program and the Patricia Cunningham Four Block approach that helps develop vocabulary, increases sensitivity to language and focuses on the making of words. During the writing block, students use the Six Plus One Traits of Writing, strengthening the voice, ideas, word choice, sentence fluency, organization, or conventions in a specific piece.

In Social Studies, students build the skills they need to understand their world and the people who inhabit it. In Science, children develop an informal relationship with the environment, using the scientific process.
Fifth and Sixth Grade
In Language Arts, students refine reading skills, gain an appreciation of literature, apply writing using the Six Plus One Traits of Writing, and develop speaking, listening and technology skills. Sixth graders participate in forensics, a public speaking and performance competition.

With a technology-focused approach through a new program called Zearn, students have ample opportunities to exhibit and apply their mathematical skills learned through daily instruction. In Social Studies, students develop an understanding of their lives in a simulated approach to learning history. United States history is presented in a two-year cycle. In Science, students explore their world using a hands-on approach within the scientific method framework. A two-year cycle covers physical, life and earth science concepts. Students also participate in distance learning through the Jason Project.
Seventh and Eighth Grade
Our 7/8 students approach reading and writing through daily vocabulary lessons integrated with grammar concepts, an exploration of a variety of writing genres and building skills as researchers and essayists throughout the year applying the Six Plus One traits of writing. Students learn speaking and listening skills through an annual student-produced program and participation in forensics, a public speaking and performing competition.
In Social Studies, students study ancient history through modern times in a two-year cycle. Other units of study focus on geography, world religions, and economics. Students learn a variety of note-taking skills as they prepare posters, PowerPoint presentations, and models as final projects.
The Carnegie Math curriculum combines cognitive and learning science with practical instruction to develop conceptual math understanding as well as deeper learning skills. Science combines research skills and a project-based curriculum to engage the whole child. Students complete a two-year curriculum that includes biology, earth science, astronomy, and chemistry.
