Extension Program The Extension Program (before- and after-school care) is designed as a service for parents who need additional care for their children enrolled at Woodlands. Students who are not picked up at regular dismissal time are automatically taken to Extension. Hours: Mornings: 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Afternoons: 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The service is open on school days only, but currently NOT during vacation, conferences, or staff days. Activities and Snacks Opportunities for art activities, games, reading, outdoor play, and homework are available to all students. Students make choices regarding their activities. Children are provided a nutritious snack in afternoon Extension. Location, Sign-In or Sign-Out: The main Extension facility is located in the building above the cafeteria and gym. Parents are asked to park in a designated spot, buzz in at the gym door, escort their child up and sign him/her into or out of Extension. The log book is used in two ways: for our staff members to know who is at extension in case of an emergency, also for billing purposes. If you do not sign-out your child you may be billed for the entire afternoon (3:30-6:00). Remember: Only an authorized adult (person listed on the emergency card) can sign-out your child. You MUST call to authorize someone who is not listed on the emergency card. Fees: Fees are assessed at $4.00 per hour. Families will be billed monthly. Nonpayment of Extension fees will result in the child being unable to continue in the program. Late Fees: Because staff is only available until 6 p.m., there is a substantial late pick-up fee: $5 for each five minutes of late pick-up. Abuse of pick-up time may result in dismissal from the program. Parent Expectations: Parents are required to bring children into the room in the morning and sign the daily log. Likewise, parents must come into the building to sign their children out in the afternoon. Parents expecting their child to complete certain activities i.e. homework, are responsible for making those arrangements with their child. Staff is not able to oversee such parental expectations. Student Expectations: Because the program is an extension of the school day, the children will be expected to respect the staff, each other, materials and environment as in the classroom. Students may never leave the building or grounds without explicit permission of the Extension Program staff. Serious violations of rules will result in parents being notified of the problem. A student having three serious violations is no longer permitted to use Extension for a specified amount of time and, in extreme cases, for the rest of the school year. Toys: Children are not permitted to bring toys from home (just as this practice is discouraged during school time). Often personal items become the center of confrontation when others become interested in them. Personal toys brought to the program will be kept until the child leaves for home. Illness or Accident: The same procedures for illness or accidents used during the school day are followed in the Extension Program. Please refer to the Woodlands School Parent Handbook. Study Hall: The library is available from 3:15 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. for completion of homework for grades 3 through 8. The librarian supervises the students during that time. The students can use this time to study, complete homework or to use the additional library resources. At 4:30 p.m., remaining students transfer to the Extension program.
